Lonnie Lemur Explores Madagascar

Lonnie Lemur Explores Madagascar © is two books within one very colorful cover. The odd numbered chapters are a fictional story of Lonnie Lemur meeting Zeke the Zebu and Charlie the Chameleon. Together these three animals travel throughout Madagascar. Together they meet other unique animals and creatures endemic to the island, while observing how Malagasy people struggle daily to live and survive in their underdeveloped nation.
The even numbered chapters are a textbook of information that enhances the observations of the three fictional travel mates. These chapters describe how Malagasies hand-form clay cook stoves and artistically weave cloth and build some homes from hand-molded clay bricks and other homes from tightly entwined tree saplings smeared with wet clay. These chapters also explain how Malagasies grow various food crops and coffee and cotton without the use of big farm implements.
Also in the even chapters the reader learns about the difficult history of the island, how ancient people rowed canoes thousands of miles across oceans so to settle in this uninhabited world thousands of years ago; then, hundreds of years later, how Europeans arrived in huge ships and colonized the island and controlled the various Malagasy clans. All of this leading up to today, after the Europeans departed Madagascar, and how this struggling nation works to maintain a free and democratic society.
